Mark came to Second Baptist in June of 2001 from Ridgeview Baptist Church in Tennessee. He is originally from Tyler, Texas. Mark has earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth Texas and a Doctorate of Ministry from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

He and his wife Janet, who is a former school teacher, have two children, Holly and Brad.

We would love the opportunity to meet you in person but for now, I’ll share just a bit about myself.

I grew up in Kansas and attended College at Oklahoma State. I have a deep passion to lead Adults to a full, meaningful relationship with God that causes them to be authentic followers of Christ. Christy, my beautiful wife, and I have been married for more than 12 years and have three great kids. PJ is nine, Savannah is seven, and our youngest is Aubrey, who is two years old.

Tony Weston

Tony came to Second Baptist in August of 1998 from the Sylvan Hills First Baptist Church in Sherwood, Arkansas. He was born in Pine Bluff and grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He's a graduate of Jonesboro High School and Arkansas State University. He atttended Southwestern Baptist Seminary.

Tony is responsible for the entire music and worship ministry at the church. He leads the Worship Choir, Senior Adult Choir, Praise Teams and the Praise Band.

Tony started working in the ministry right after high school in 1971. He and his wife Judy have been married since 1975 and have three sons, Blake, Taylor, and Grant.

Dane Abels
Student Pastor

Dane joined the staff of Second Baptist in May 2006. He is originally from Bryant, AR. Dane is passionate about students and helping them grow closer to God. He began student ministry in 1994 and is a graduate of Ouchita Baptist University and is currently persuing his masters degree in Christian education.

He and his wife, Jennifer, have two daughters - Hanna Beth and Abby Grace.

Kyle Seal

Kyle joined the staff of Second Baptist in January 2005. He is originally from Piggott, Arkansas. Kyle received his bachelor degree in Chemistry from Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, and a Masters of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Before coming to 2BC, Kyle served as the Director of Campus Ministries at Williams Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas; Collegiate Minister at Walnut Street Baptist Church in Jonesboro, Arkansas; and Youth and Education Minister at Indian Hills Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. Kyle is joined in ministry with his wife, Ashley, who is a teacher at Conway High School.

Matt McClellan

Matt joined the staff of Second Baptist in May 2005 and we are still not sure exactly what all Matt does. His main responsibility is all the graphic design, web design, and video production as well as overseeing the technical ministries on Sunday mornings. However, he also fixes our computers when they break, leads worship from time to time, and serves as our photographer.

Matt spent 10 years as a student pastor in Arkansas, Kentucky, and Texas and then moved back to Arkansas when God lead him to focus on graphic design and media for churches. He has a Marketing degree from UCA and a Masters degree in Christian Education.

He and his wife, Mandy, have three daughters - Abby, Keely, and Sophie.

John Gathright

God moved me from owning a family business to taking on ministry responsibilities at Second Baptist in 2004. It is my privilege to serve at a time when our church is growing, expanding ministries, and relocating into more spacious and accommodating facilities. Members since 1988, Janet and I have raised our children at 2BC.

Prior to joining the staff, I served as chairman of the deacons, taught older youth, and helped facilitate several mission trips. Currently, I sing in the worship choir and teach a weekly college home group bible study.

It is critical in our ministry together for management of the office, facilities, and plans for the future to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible, with prayer and biblical principals always being the guideline for every decision and method. I gratefully and prayerfully serve to advance the kingdom of God through my work here at 2BC.

Clyde Spurgin
Senior Adult Pastor

Clyde Spurgin and his wife, Hilda are retired after 47 years of pastoral ministry. They are parents of three adult children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Clyde is a graduate of Southwest Baptist College (Now University) in Bolivar, MO, and Washington University, St. Louis, MO. He did post-graduate studies at the University of Missouri and also attended Brooks Bible Institute, St. Louis. Through ventriloquism, Clyde and his friend, Archie, have ministered to thousands in Arkansas and 17 other states, and in West Germany.

"Since Hilda and I are senior adults ourselves, we want to be involved with other senior adults in fellowship, worship, ministry, outreach, and other enjoyable activities."

Jill Imboden
Children's Minister

Originally from Batesville, Jill received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Arkansas where she also completed
post graduate work in Education. After 16 years in teaching and curriculum development, Jill considers it a privilege to serve the children and parents in her church home. Her hope is that the children of 2BC will know Jesus in a personal way and experience His love from the church family.

Jill and her husband Cory have been married for 17 years and have attended Second Baptist for the past 12 years. They have two sons, Caleb (14) and Casey (11)
